About Us
OBI - Okinawan Budo Institute, established in 1968, is one of the oldest Shorin Ryu Shorinkan Karate schools in the USA. The dojo focuses on teaching traditional Okinawan Karate as it was intended, emphasizing the development of true self-defense skills. Training is structured around the principles of mechanics, physics, and the physiology of the human body, allowing students to effectively transfer their body weight and power. The dojo promotes a no-nonsense, traditional approach to karate, with a commitment to mental, physical, and spiritual growth. OBI also incorporates Kobudo, the art of using traditional tools as weapons, reinforcing the connection between empty hand karate and weapon training.
