About Us
The Aikido Institute of San Francisco is a dojo founded in June 1999 by Gloria E. Nomura, dedicated to teaching and developing the art of Aikido in a modern and profound way. Aikido, known as 'The Way of Harmonious Spirit,' is a contemporary martial art that emphasizes non-violence and non-competition, focusing on the integration of mind, body, and spirit. The dojo offers classes in Aikido, as well as training in classical Japanese weapons such as bokken (wooden sword) and jo (wooden staff), which enhance the Aikido training. Additionally, Iaido, the art of sword-drawing, is taught, requiring total concentration and awareness. The dojo also incorporates mindful meditation practices to promote well-being and sharpen awareness.
