About Us

Bay Area Capoeira and Jiu-Jitsu is an Afro-Brazilian martial art school that teaches two main styles: Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Capoeira combines self-defense, acrobatics, dance, music, and song, and is known for its acrobatic and complex maneuvers. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ, is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting, forcing one's opponent to submit through various techniques. The school's founder, Mestre Itaborá, is a world champion and Pan Am champion in Jiu-Jitsu and holds various certifications in sports nutrition and personal training. He believes that Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu create communities, promote tolerance, and teach valuable skills, and offers classes in Capoeira, BJJ, and FlowFit, which combines coordination, motor control, and other skills to measure fitness. The school has a long history of experience and has produced many happy students and world titles.
