About Us
Capoeira Angola Filhos de Palmares is dedicated to the practice and celebration of Capoeira, a martial art that originated among enslaved Africans in Brazil. This unique art form combines elements of movement, music, and culture, serving as a powerful symbol of resistance and identity. The dojo honors its roots by continuing the tradition of Capoeira Angola, named after the African country from which many enslaved people were taken. Through this practice, the dojo fosters a sense of community and respect, inspiring individuals to embrace their identity and stand up for equality. The name 'Filhos de Palmares,' meaning 'Children of Palmares,' pays tribute to the brave Afro-Brazilians of Quilombo dos Palmares, who used Capoeira to protect and free their community. Today, Capoeira remains a celebrated aspect of Brazilian culture, encouraging personal growth and community building.
