About Us

Obukan Judo Dojo is a 97-year-old Judo Dojo established in 1926 in Portland, Oregon. It teaches traditional Kodokan Judo. The dojo's name 'Obukan' originates from Oregon, where 'O' refers to Oregon, 'Bu' means martial training, and 'Kan' means building or training hall. The dojo's history is deeply connected to Dr. Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, who visited Oregon after the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles.
