Butanken is a martial arts group founded by Masaji Saito-sensei, focusing on the traditional art of Japanese swordsmanship and the philosophies of the Samurai. With deep roots in Shinkendo and Toyama-ryū, Butanken, short for Bushido Tanren Kenkyukai, aims to study and spread these ancient practices. The group teaches core principles of swordsmanship found across various schools in Japan and extends its teachings to the philosophies behind the use of the sword, as detailed in historical manuscripts.
