Maryknoll Shotokan Karate Club

Maryknoll Shotokan Karate Club, founded in 1963 by Tsutomu Ohshima, is one of the oldest continuously operating karate dojos in the United States. Located in Los Angeles, California, it is part of Shotokan Karate of America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching traditional karate. The dojo has a rich history, having started as the first elementary school karate club in the U.S. under Mr. Ohshima's guidance. The club emphasizes rigorous karate training in the form and tradition passed down from Master Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of modern-day karate. Maryknoll Shotokan Karate continues to thrive, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2023 and welcoming practitioners to join in the art of karate.
