About Us
Aikido of Cincinnati is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1972. It is affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation, the largest Aikido association in America headed by Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan. The organization has a head instructor named Charlie McGinnis Sensi, who is a Nanadan (7th degree Black Belt) and Shihan (Master Aikido Instructor). The dojo offers over 20 classes per week, with each class lasting about an hour and a half. Aikido is a Japanese martial art created by Morihei Ueshiba, also known as O-Sensei. It is a discipline that focuses on harmonious energy and blending with one's attacker rather than fighting toe-to-toe. Aikido techniques involve circular movements, and the goal is to redirect or evade the attacker's energy rather than opposing it directly. The dojo teaches various styles, including Aikido, Karate, and Kendo.
