About Us
Chicago Aikikai is an inclusive community that explores the Japanese martial art of aikido. Aikido is a non-competitive martial art that aims to harmonize with energy and redirect the energy of an attack. The dojo offers a way to develop mental, emotional, and physical self-control through posture, confidence, focus, and interactive balance. Chicago Aikikai was founded in 1963 as the Illinois Aikido Club and is currently located in a second-floor space on Chicago Avenue near Ashland. The dojo teaches aikido in a supportive community led by chief instructor and dojo-cho Marsha Turner Sensei, who has exceptional weapons skills.
