About Us

Aikido Nippon Kan focuses on conflict resolution rather than overpowering opponents. It emphasizes blending and redirecting an attacker’s energy to minimize harm. Similar to yoga, aikido enhances the brain-body connection through mindful awareness of movement, breath, and balance. The dojo offers excellent cardiovascular exercise, with movements that elevate heart rates akin to traditional aerobic workouts. Established in 1978 in Denver, CO, Nippon Kan is the largest aikido dojo in the Rocky Mountain region, founded by Gaku Homma Sensei, who studied under the founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba. The dojo combines kenjutsu, jojutsu, and taijitsu in its unique teaching methodology, promoting stamina, endurance, and mindfulness in practice.
