About Us
Nampa Tang Soo Do is a martial arts organization that teaches the style of Tang Soo Do, which is a relatively modern martial art based on the Korean art of Soo Bahk Do. The style originated during the Silla Dynasty (618 to 935 A.D.) and was developed by Grand Master Hwang Kee. Hwang Kee was born in 1914 and began his martial arts training at a young age, eventually becoming a student of Master Yang, Kuk Jin, a Chinese Master. He later discovered books about Okinawan Karate, which influenced his development of the Moo Duk Kwan style. Hwang Kee's martial art was originally called Hwa Soo Do, but he later changed the name to Tang Soo Do. The style emphasizes the importance of human relationships and promoting positive global relations through martial arts. Nampa Tang Soo Do offers classes for youth and adults at the Harwood Recreation Center in Nampa, ID, and can be contacted at 408-655-9803 or nampatraditionstsd@gmail.com.
