Yorkshire Aikikai

Welcome to the Yorkshire Aikikai website! We are two Yorkshire-based groups training in traditional Aikido. Aikido was created by Morihei Ueshiba in Japan between 1920 and 1940. It is a martial art that emphasizes the harmonization of the spirit and the creative life energy of the universe. The Aikikai Foundation, located in Hombu Dojo, Tokyo, is the headquarters for Aikido. The British Aikido Federation, founded in 1968, was the first organization accredited by the World Aikido Headquarters in Japan to teach Aikido in Britain. Sensei Ken Marsden, a senior instructor, has been practicing Aikido since 1971 and is recognized by Hombu.
