Gracie Barcelona

Gracie Barcelona is an academy dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu located in Barcelona. The martial art of Jiu-Jitsu has a rich history that began in India with Buddhist monks who developed it as a form of defense. The term Jiu-Jitsu translates to 'gentle art' and is based on three fundamental principles: technique, leverage, and base. The art traveled from India to China and then to Japan, where it was popularized by Mitsuyo Maeda. In 1914, Maeda arrived in Brazil, where he taught the art to Gastão Gracie's son, Carlos. Together with his brother Helio, they adapted the techniques to create Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, which has since influenced martial arts worldwide.
