About Us
Fechten is primarily a combat sport. Before it was established as a sport, the form of competition as a duel was widespread. The historical origins of this combat technique trace back to the refinement of weapons and movement sequences compared to sword and saber fights. Today, fencing primarily refers to sport fencing, which is done with foil, épée, and (light) saber. The official competition language in fencing (French: Escrime) is French. Unlike modern sport fencing, historical fencing refers to earlier styles from the Renaissance and Middle Ages, aiming to reproduce these styles as authentically as possible. The Coblenzer Turngesellschaft organizes training for its foil and saber fencers with a full-time coach and part-time trainers. The CTG has achieved significant success in regional championships and leads the rankings in the fencing federation of Mittelrhein.
