About Us
Wun Hop Kuen Do means 'combined fist fighting style' and was founded in 1968 by Professor Al Dacascos in the USA. The appeal of Wun Hop Kuen Do is particularly characterized by its versatility. At the beginning of training, basic exercises (strikes, kicks, and blocks) are learned. After passing the first belt test (the yellow belt), the study of the special techniques of Wun Hop Kuen Do begins. This includes learning Kuens (forms), later also with traditional Chinese weapons, street fighting, and elements of tournament fighting. While Karate is a stylized form of striking, kicking, and thrusting, and Judo is a sport of throwing, grappling, and choking, Wun Hop Kuen Do is a martial art that incorporates all types of opponents. The principles of Wun Hop Kuen Do depend on what the opponent will do, and the wealth of learned techniques is a means to develop one's own creativity in martial arts. It is not decisive 'what is done', but 'how it is done'.
