About Us
The Australian School of Shotokan Karate is a dojo that teaches Shotokan Karate, a form of unarmed combat and martial art. Shotokan Karate originated in Japan during the 19th century on the island of Okinawa and was later introduced to mainland Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi. The dojo offers classes for all ages and fitness levels, and teaches self-defence skills, physical training, and functional movement. They have multiple locations in Thornbury, Alpine (Bright), and Mount Hawthorn (Perth W.A), and are led by experienced instructors including Sensei Edji, a 6th dan black belt ranking internationally recognized by the Japan Karate Association (JKA).
