About Us
Takumakai Daito-Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is a traditional Japanese martial art that is said to be about one thousand years old. It is a martial art that utilizes an additional power called Aiki, which allows practitioners to be relaxed and supple and to use the opponent's power to unbalance and control them. The art requires practitioners to harmonize and apply Aiki to respond naturally and appropriately to a range of threat levels. It includes techniques such as evasion, redirection, atemi, locks, throws, and pins. The art was first opened to the public by Takeda Sokaku one hundred years ago. It has been taught in Australia since 1980 and has three branch Dojos and one official study group affiliated with the Takumakai in Japan.
