About Us
Takumakai Daito-Ryu Aiki Jujutsu Australia is a traditional Japanese martial art with roots dating back approximately one thousand years. This art was made accessible to the public by Takeda Sokaku a century ago. The unique techniques of Aiki Jujutsu focus on utilizing the opponent's energy while incorporating an additional element known as Aiki. Practitioners learn to remain relaxed and adaptable, allowing them to unbalance and control their adversaries through various techniques such as evasion, redirection, locks, throws, and pins. The art emphasizes a higher level of control in confrontational situations compared to traditional striking or grappling methods. The first official class in Australia began in Geelong in 1980, and the dojo maintains close ties with its parent organization in Japan, ensuring a consistent technical direction.
