About Us
Takumakai Daito Ryu Australia is a traditional Japanese martial art that is said to be around one thousand years old. It was opened to the public for the first time by Takeda Sokaku (1860-1943) one hundred years ago. The art combines jujutsu techniques with the additional power of Aiki, allowing practitioners to be relaxed and supple while using their opponent's aggressive attack to unbalance and control them. The science behind the art allows even the strongest attacks to be reversed, providing a higher level of control in a range of threatening situations. The art teaches practitioners to respond naturally and appropriately to different threat levels using evasion, redirection, atemi, locks, throws, and pins. Training in Australia began in Geelong in 1980, with the leadership of Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu in Australia being taken over by Leigh Dicker Sensei in 2000.
